How to Make a Quote in the Middle of the Text
Citation is the mention in the text of an information extracted from another source. In the ABNT Rules there are rules on how to insert these citations in works, articles and others.
According to Duarte and Furtado (2017), all sources of research, ideas and suggestions from third parties taken and apprehended with the critical reading that is used in the course of the work must be quoted with trustworthiness. This avoids plagiarism.
There are two types of citations: the one inside and the outside. According to ABNT rules, when the citation is outside the text, the author’s last name must be in capital letters and the year of publication, all in parentheses.
When the citation is inside the text, the author’s name is written in lowercase letters and only the year of publication is enclosed in parentheses. Example: Mikalauskas (2015).
Going back to the story of the beginning, was the advisor giving the wrong information or did the student not understand? The answer to this question is very important so that any doubt on the subject is remedied.
Can the institution create rules different from the ABNT Rules?
The answer is yes. The educational institution can create rules that overlap ABNT standards. These should be listed in the standardization manual of the institution.
If your college has such a manual, it is important to ask for it so that you can develop your work according to the rules contained therein.
The role of the advisor is to stimulate the student to the investigative attitude of the search of solutions to the problem proposed in the work. Also guide you in what is right and wrong in the structure and design of CBT.
So the student should keep in mind that even if you disagree with the counselor, it is important to follow his or her suggestions. Maybe he has a valid reason for giving certain instruction.
According to ABNT standards The use of parentheses in quotations works like this:
Citation outside the text: the surname of the author or authors must be in capital letters and the year of publication, all in parentheses. Example: (DUARTE and FURTADO, 2014)
Citation within the text: the surname of the author or authors must be written in lowercase letters and only the year of publication is enclosed in parentheses. Example: Duarte and Furtado (2014).
If the rules of the educational institution that the student studies are different from the ABNT norms, they must obey the rules determined by the institution.
If you tell your institution what standards you should rely on to develop your CBT, you will save time and avoid future headaches.
